The Steps We Leave Behind

At the end of the day, shoes find their way back to where they belong.

Some are carefully polished before being placed on the shelf. Others still carry the dust of a long day. Tiny shoes that once fit little feet are tucked away in boxes, while well-worn pairs quietly remind us of seasons we would never choose to forget. Over time, we begin to realize that the shoes themselves were never the story. They simply accompanied it.

This month invited us to slow down and notice what is often overlooked. An ordinary pair of shoes became an invitation to see more deeply, not only the journeys beneath our own feet, but the lives, traditions, craftsmanship, memories, and quiet moments of faith woven into everyday life.

The more we pay attention, the more we discover that life is shaped in ways we rarely recognize while we're living it. It is formed through the people who walk beside us, the values they pass from one generation to the next, the simple acts of creating with our hands, and the steady presence of God guiding us one step at a time.

Looking back has a way of changing what we see.

What once seemed ordinary now carries meaning.

What once felt uncertain now reveals God's faithfulness.

What once appeared to be small moments become reminders of His quiet work throughout our lives.

Perhaps that is one of the greatest gifts of reflection. It teaches us not simply to remember where we have been, but to recognize the grace that was present all along.

As this collection comes to a close, I hope you'll continue looking for beauty in the everyday, treating the stories of others with greater compassion, creating with intention, and trusting the One who faithfully directs your steps.
